The Searchlight
It's picking you from a lineup
Monday is the killer.
Monday, or more crucially, the first four hours before lunchtime on a Monday, are the crucial hours that set up your week. If you choose to ignore them, you do so at your peril.
Another updated status report, another logged hour or two. Another call that would signal that life was going nowhere fast, spinning the wheels in the mud of Jira. I couldn’t handle it or the innocuous bonhomie of the familiar crew. What would happen if I didn’t turn up? Were we really that important that the world would stop turning if we weren’t here?
Self-importance has a lot to do with a Monday. We are caught in the searchlight for all to see, and we must justify ourselves for another week. It doesn’t have to be realistic. It is all just theatre. Remember to keep your fingers crossed behind your back, play your game and ease yourself into the gentler waters of the rest of the week over Monday lunchtime.
Wednesday might be the hump day, but the momentum in the middle of the week is inevitable at that point. You’re mid-stream, and the tide is taking you out to the estuary of the weekend.
Remember. Survive.
